Do you ever look at someone and think, “we go together like a French fry and Frosty?” Or am I the only one who uses Wendy’s analogies to understand love? I hope I’m not the only one.
Growing up, I ate 3 things: sugary cereals, PB&J sandwiches…and Wendy’s. I was the girl dipping her fries in her Frosty before it was considered the *cool* thing to do. (If you don’t know about this delicious trend, then I’m confused how you even got to my blog in the first place). I also was a fan of the Wendy’s cheeseburger. One thing they didn’t have when I was growing up, was a salad selection. If I were a kid today, I’m sure my family would have moved into the nearest store and I would have never learned how to use a kitchen. That’ s because Wendy’s has a new unbelievably fresh line of salads that I’m here to tell you about!
Yes. I said salads. What salads you ask? Well, let me begin.
First, let me fill you in on how these are made. I had the opportunity to attend a Wendy’s event where they prepared and showcased each salad, explaining where they source ingredients and how each salad is made. I learned a lot about how they get their produce (did you know that Wendy’s used so many fresh blackberries in their menu in 2015 that they caused the price of U.S. blackberries to go up?! That’s crazy!). I learned that their chicken is grilled in house and whole heads of lettuce are hand washed and chopped in each store. That’s a lot of work and a lot of customers to feed.
Ok now, without further adieu, please let me introduce to you the salads.
My favorite on the menu, this new salad features a spring mix and full heads of freshly chopping iceberg and romaine lettuce and is topped with a freshly grilled, all-white meat chicken breast, fresh mozzarella cheese, juicy grape tomatoes, a drizzle of a creamy basil pesto sauce and crunchy French bread croutons. It is finished with Marzetti® Simply Dressed® Balsamic Vinaigrette. I was talking to some other people at the event and I am not the only one who agrees that you can really taste the fresh quality of the chicken in this salad. It is so important and really makes the dish.
If you’re looking for a salad to fuel your workouts, please welcome the Power Mediterranean. This salad’s got Mediterranean flavor mixed with a savory sundried tomato grain, quinoa, chick peas, white beans, fire-roasted vegetables and sundried tomatoes. It’s topped with crumbled feta, freshly grilled, all-white meat chicken breast, creamy hummus and Marzetti® Simply Dressed® Light Balsamic Vinaigrette. It gives me energy just thinking about it.
This is Wendy’s newest seasonal salad. It combines savory and sweet flavors like fresh, hand-cut strawberries, feta cheese crumbles, juicy mangoes and honey roasted sunflowers seeds over a bed of their signature lettuce blend. The finishing touches are a warm, grilled chicken breast and Marzetti® Simply Dressed® Honey Citrus Vinaigrette. But I could even eat this without the dressing.
This is the most indulgent of the four. Take Wendy’s signature chili, pair it with hand-diced tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, a bed of hand-chopped iceberg and romaine lettuce then add some sour cream, tortilla chips and salsa. Voila! You have a Wendy’s taco salad.
I have to say I feel very enlightened after attending this Wendy’s event. I think as Americans, we are very quick to judge any brand that is labeled “fast food,” but we have to remember that each and every company is different. Wendy’s originally opened in 1969 with the mission for its supply chain to deliver fresh, never frozen beef patties to each of its restaurants. Now, this mission translates to all of their dishes and each of their ingredients. Just because the food is fast, does not mean it isn’t fresh. And I’m so proud of Wendy’s for standing by what they set out to do! The quality really translates and I never thought I would say it, but you’ll definitely see me at Wendy’s eating a salad.
