My favorite restaurants are the ones that surprise me. I love reading menus and being surprised (maybe even slightly confused) by certain flavor combinations and different kinds of dishes. Genuine Superette is one of these restaurants that sparked my interest, with an eclectic menu of California style "fast-food" -- think everything from fresh salads, a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich, tuna tacos and.....BRIOCHE ice cream sandwiches. Fresh or fried, you can find it on the menu.
Baja Style Ahi Tuna Tacos
raw marinated tuna, border slaw, avocado, spicy mayo, crispy corn tortillas
These tuna tacos were my absolute favorites of the savory dishes I tried. The tuna was so fresh and perfectly marinated with a very balanced soy taste. Every bite entertained my tastebuds with the smooth tuna, crispy tortillas, spicy mayo, avocado and the slaw. To sum it up, these are a must-have.
Buttermilk Battered Chicken Sandwich
with apple/celeriac slaw and sambal mayo
This one's more on the heavier side, but the refreshing slaw definitely lightens up the buttermilk battered chicken.
pickled jalapeño, cotija cheese, cilantro and charred jalapeño mayo
This burger is surprisingly light, with a thinner patty and zesty toppings.
California Kale Salad
Baby kale, avocado, peppadew, peppers, sprouts, cotija cheese, hard boiled egg, toasted pumpkin seeds and (i added grilled citrus shrimp)
This is a nutrient and flavor-packed salad. I recommend adding the grilled citrus shrimp. Super juicy.
BRIOCHE ICE CREAM SANDWICHES
Genuine Superette has 4 different brioche ice cream sandwiches. I've tried half of them. The classic flavors are the vanilla bean chocolate chip and the chocolate coconut, but I went with the more unconventional.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Extra virgin olive oil ice cream with balsamic caramel and strawberry jam
buttermilk blueberry ice cream with caramel honey and crunchy cornflakes
I mean....... you can't go wrong. My advice: get the tuna tacos and the extra virgin olive oil ice cream sandwich. Or just eat everything. Up to you.
